About this resource
These material masters support teaching and learning about number – operations.
Learning about number – operations
In Phase 1 students learn to use estimation and rounding to help them make reasonable calculations.
They join and separate groups of objects before learning to add and subtract. Students learn to skip count, and multiply and divide numbers using equal groups.
In Phase 2 students extend this learning to larger numbers and develop their knowledge of multiplication and division facts and procedures.
This learning is developed in Phase 3 as students use the order of operations, and order, compare, add and subtract integers.
These material masters can be used by teachers to support learning about operations. They include templates for digit cards, tens frames to support addition and subtraction facts, and number lines for use with rounding, addition and subtraction.
Also included are family of facts cards, multiplication charts and ‘Happy Hundreds’ boards.
These material masters are referred to in the ‘Teaching considerations’ section of the teaching sequences for Years 0-8.
Additional resources on this page Examples of written methods for number operations Phase 1-3 show teachers how written methods for number operations can be developed over each phase.
