Welcome to Learning Languages

Nau mai, Haere mai

Welcome to the learning languages community!

Languages are inextricably linked to the social and cultural contexts in which they are used. Languages and cultures play a key role in developing national, group, and personal identities. As students acquire the skills of communicative competence, they simultaneously reflect on their own personal identity and explore their own culture from a new perspective. The learning languages learning area has the following whakataukī.

Ko tōu reo, ko tōku reo, te tuakiri tangata. Tīhei uriuri, tīhei nakonako.

Your language and my language are expressions of identity. May our descendants live on and our hopes be fulfilled.
