About this resource

The relationships and sexuality education (RSE) guidelines and associated resources have been removed as we refresh the wider health and physical education (HPE) learning area.

Following a recent evaluation by the Education Review Office, which found that greater consistency is needed for the teaching of RSE, the Ministry of Education is working with sector experts to inform the development of the HPE learning area.

An important focus of this work will be on ensuring RSE content is age-appropriate, responds to recommendations from the ERO report, is evidence-informed, and is clear about what to teach and when from Years 0 to 13 (ages 5 to 18).

Further updates and support for RSE will be available as we progress the refresh of The New Zealand Curriculum, and there will be opportunities to have your say on the HPE learning area as part of consultation in 2025.
