Assessment is a pedagogical practice that supports teachers to teach and students to learn by responding to interactions in learning.
Teachers purposefully use classroom observations and conversations, student work, and reliable assessment information to notice, recognise, and respond to student needs. This includes considering progress, which helps teachers to plan and adapt their teaching to support students.
The shift to progressions requires distinctive practices that support assessment, particularly Assessment for Learning (AfL).
