Key competencies

This section contains resources and materials that support the teaching and learning of the key competencies.

The New Zealand Curriculum (2007) identifies five key competencies:

  • Thinking
  • Relating to others
  • Using languages, symbols, and texts
  • Managing self
  • Participating and contributing

Te Mātaiaho identifies the same five competencies and weaves them through the understand, know, do progressions in the learning areas. Find out more about Te Mātaiaho | the refreshed NZ Curriculum here: Refreshing The New Zealand Curriculum | Curriculum Refresh.
