Teaching and Learning Guidelines for Japanese 

The Teaching and Learning Guidelines for Japanese provide the most current guidance for designing teaching and learning programmes aligned to The 2007 New Zealand Curriculum. 

Hai! An Introduction to Japanese

The Learning Languages Series (LLS) provides multi-media materials designed for teachers and students who are new to language learning. The series is designed for year 7 and 8 students and supports level 1 and 2 achievement objectives in Japanese.

NZQA: Resources for Japanese
Access an array of NCEA-related assessment material from this NZQA site specifically devoted to Japanese. It includes NCEA achievement standards, internal and external assessment resources, vocabulary lists for external standards, past examination papers, and moderation reports.

Embassy of Japan - The Japan Information & Cultural Centre
The Japan Information & Cultural Centre offers an excellent range of resources for teachers. The services are free and open to the public. Resources available for loan include newspapers, books, maps, brochures, flags, slides, tapes, and documentary and cultural VHS videos. It hosts a range of educational events, such as monthly movies and educational visits for primary, intermediate, and high school students. 

Asia New Zealand Foundation
Asia New Zealand undertakes a range of initiatives to increase New Zealanders' Asia Awareness. It offers schools and students a number of opportunities to enhance Asia Awareness; which can include initiatives with respect to Japan.

Aotearoa Explorers
Aotearoa Explorers is a free web-browser-based digital game that uses gamification and the concept of global citizenship to spark interest and deepen young people’s understanding of the Asia-Pacific region. This game is aimed at students in years 5–8 in New Zealand schools.
