Learning Languages

Through Phase 5 Learning Languages, students build on knowledge and practices developed in earlier phases deepening their understanding of what it means to learn and use a language through engaging with language learning in meaningful and culturally grounded ways. They develop the ability to communicate by building linguistic knowledge, understanding cultural and sociolinguistic contexts, and applying strategies that support language learning. By engaging with a range of spoken, written, visual, and multimodal texts, students explore ideas and perspectives connected to authentic every day, community, and societal contexts.

See the File Downloads section below to download the draft curriculum content and supporting resources.

Consultation is currently open until 8 July 2026 for:

  • Te Reo Māori

Further Phase 5 content will be available soon.
