What to do
Ask your child to enter a hundreds number and read it to you. Check they have read it correctly.
Instruction: Ask your child to enter a hundreds number on the calculator. For example: 576. Check that it has been entered correctly.

Instruction: Add 20 on the calculator. Press + 20 = 596
- Read out the number (check that it is correct). Does that make sense?
Follow the same sequence to ask your child similar questions.
What to expect your child to do
- Read the numbers correctly.
- Check that the calculator answer makes sense and they haven’t pressed the wrong buttons.

He whakawhitinga kōrero
- Tuhia te tau ‘toru rau whitu tekau mā rima’ ki te tātaitai. (Write the number 375 on the calculator.)
- Tuhia he tau ‘rau’ ki te tātaitai. (Write a hundreds number on the calculator.)
- Pānuihia mai te tau? (Read the number to me.)
- Tāpirihia te rua tekau ki tēnā tau. (Add 20 to that number.)
- He aha te otinga? Pānuihia mai. (What is the result? Read it to me.)
