Through their learning in health and physical education, ākonga will develop a range of positive and responsible attitudes and values.

Attitudes and values
Through their learning in health and physical education, ākonga will develop a range of positive and responsible attitudes and values, which include:
- hauora (wellbeing)
- the rights of other people
- people in the community and care for the environment
- social justice
Hauora - wellbeing
Ākonga will learn to:
- value themselves and other people
- reflect on their beliefs
- demonstrate integrity, commitment, resilience, and courage.
The rights of other people
Ākonga will learn to:
- accept and value the natural variation present in people around them
- acknowledge diverse viewpoints
- demonstrate tolerance, rangimārie (peacefulness), and open-mindedness.
People in the community and care for the environment
Ākonga will learn to:
- cooperate and āwhina (help)
- apply aroha, manaakitanga, care, compassion, and mahi ā ngākau (work of the heart)
- take a constructive approach to challenge and competition
- engage and participate in a positive manner.
Social justice
Ākonga will learn about:
- fairness
- inclusiveness and non-discriminatory practices.
