Indicators of progression

The indicators of progression define the learning objectives at each level of The New Zealand Curriculum. They describe the knowledge, skills, and understandings students should demonstrate when achieving at the specified level.

The indicators of progression provide a guide for unit planning as well as indicate the evidence that students should be able to produce before moving on to the next level. They can also be used as an audit tool across a programme of learning to ensure the students have been given the opportunity to develop a broad range of skills in all the key aspects of the technology learning area.

Indicators are provided for each of the eight components within the technology learning area of The New Zealand Curriculum, for levels 1–8, as well as indicators of progression for specialist technology areas (levels 6–8).

Digital technologies

Revisions to the technology learning area to strengthen the positioning of digital technologies in The New Zealand Curriculum were gazetted for implementation in 2020. See Technology in the The New Zealand Curriculum.

The learning objectives and indicators of progression for digital technologies have been replaced with learning progressions in the two technological areas: computational thinking for digital technologies and designing and developing digital outcomes.

See Computational thinking: Progress outcomes and exemplars
and Unpacking the curriculum: Designing and developing digital outcomes.

Specialist technology areas (levels 6–8)

The following material relates to achievement objectives that were replaced in the previous curriculum refresh (2019). They do however contain useful teacher information so are kept here for reference.
