Consultation on the NZC Years 0-10 draft curriculum is now closed
We really appreciate the feedback that we’ve received throughout the consultation period. We are now reviewing and considering this feedback. This will inform the final National Curriculum, which will be released in mid-2026.

The consultation on Te Marautanga o Aotearoa draft framework and Years 0-10 content has also closed, except for the Pūmanawa Tangata wāhanga ako.

Implementation timeframes
The final New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa will be released in mid-2026.
The Years 0-10 curriculum is being implemented over three years:
- 2026: Years 0-10 English, Mathematics and Statistics, Te Reo Rangatira, and Pāngarau are now required to be taught in schools and most kura.
- 2027: Years 0-8 content for Science, Social Sciences, Health and Physical Education, Pūtaiao, Pūmanawa Tangata, and Waiora will be required to be taught. All Years 9-10 learning areas and wāhanga ako will need to be taught from Term 1, 2027.
- 2028: Years 0-8 content for The Arts, Technology, Learning Languages, Toi Ihiihi, Hangarau, Ngā Reo, and Te Reo Pākeha will be required to be taught.
