11 February 2026
House of Science has been confirmed as the supplier for the nationwide rollout of science and pūtaiao kits, supporting the delivery of Budget 2025’s investment to strengthen science and pūtaiao learning in primary and intermediate schools.
The $39.9 million investment will provide fully funded, curriculum‑aligned, hands‑on science and pūtaiao kits for Years 0–8 in state and state‑integrated schools and kura, helping teachers bring science to life in classrooms across the country.
House of Science is an experienced New Zealand provider with an established delivery model supporting practical science learning in schools. Under the initiative, House of Science will develop, manage, and distribute the kits, alongside training and ongoing support for teachers and kaiako.
The release of the science and pūtaiao kits will begin in a growing number of schools and kura from Term 1, 2026. Full national coverage is expected by early to mid‑2027. Once complete, the programme is expected to have 8,000 kits in circulation, servicing more than 2,000 primary and intermediate schools and kura across the country.
The kits are designed to:
Support teachers to confidently deliver practical, hands‑on science learning
Align with the new science and pūtaiao learning areas of the curriculum
Build strong foundations in science and pūtaiao from the early years
Professional support will be available for teachers using the kits, including induction training and ongoing guidance.

Comprehensive guidance on how schools and kura can access and order the kits will be shared in the coming weeks. We'll continue to update this page with further information and supports.
