Update on release of refreshed Years 7-13 English learning area

The Ministry of Education has received informative feedback from a range of groups while developing the Years 7-13 English learning area of the curriculum. To ensure we can provide you with the best quality draft for consultation, we're aiming to have a draft ready for review by the end of March. 

The consultation for the Years 9-13 Maths curriculum will close on April 28 as planned and English (7-13) will close in mid-June. This gives you additional time for you to have your say on this learning area, and for the content to be finalised ahead of it becoming official teaching from the start of 2026. It will also stagger the feedback window for teachers that are considering both the English (7-13) and mathematics (9-13) content.
